Genell Cook Via, 86, of Roanoke died Tuesday, February 14, 2017. She was born December 25, 1930 a daughter of the late Oscar Lee Cook and Florence Dooley Cook. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Willie G. Via; daughter, Kathy Ullery; brothers, Marvin and Johnny Cook.

Surviving her are one son, Samuel Via, Sr.; grandchildren, Samuel Via, Jr. (Mary), John Ullery (Erin), Amber Via, Nicole Richardson (Ben) and Sarah Klapper (Kyle); great-grandchildren, Matthew, Elijah, Mallory, Michelle, Alexis, Gabriel and Jojo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special pet, Sophie.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Lewis Gale Hospital and Berkshire Health and Rehab for all the care and support they showed to Genell and her family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Walnut Grove Union Church, P.O. Box 299, Montvale, Virginia 24122.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke. A celebration of Genell’s life will be held 11 AM, Friday, February 17, 2017 at Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke. Burial will follow at Glade Creek Cemetery.
