Thomas (Tom) passed away the morning of November 9, 2017 due to complications from a stroke he experienced in December 2014. Tom was born in Tonawanda, NY on May 8, 1957 to Tom and Gerry McKeen. In his early 20’s he moved to Virginia and made his home there in both the Richmond and Martinsville areas. For several years Tom worked for Steel Services as a steel worker and plant manager. In Martinsville, he worked at a garment factory, but when his job was outsourced to Mexico, took advantage of the NAFTA retraining program to become a long haul truck driver. He drove big rigs all over the USA, and trained several trucking students along the way. Tom is survived by his two children, David and Michael, from his former marriage to Betty McKeen, as well as grandchildren Dalton and Madilynn McKeen and Autumn Brady, siblings Carol McKeen, John Dunton, Lynne Czysz, and Jake and Lauren Seeman, nieces and nephews Japhy and Kayla Czysz and Amanda Seeman and Michael’s partner, Mitzi Marsh. Tom possessed so many wonderful qualities: intelligence, a kind heart, a great sense of humor and an encyclopedic mind for music, cars and the movies, especially those of his hero, John Wayne. He loved to both tell and hear a good story, to follow sports, and to drive – trucks, cars and especially boats. His family and friends will miss him deeply. He struggled at the end with a difficult illness; he is free at last and we wish him eternal peace.
