Steven Riley Simmons, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019. He was the husband of Kathy (Babydoll) A. Simmons.
Steve was born May 16, 1956 in Roanoke, the son of the late Joseph Riley Simmons and Doris Maxey Simmons. Steve was a United States Navy veteran. He achieved a degree as a Master Electrician. He was employed by the Roanoke City Public Schools System for over 44 years. He loved to play his guitar, watch Virginia Tech football, enjoyed woodworking, and traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a compassionate and loving person who never knew a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. Steve was a devoted, son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his wife, Kathy (Babydoll) Simmons, and mother, Doris M. Simmons, he is survived by his daughters, Deborah McDaniel and husband, Harold, and Cheyenne Barton and husband, Wade; son, Ryan Flick; granddaughter, Amanda Barton; grandson, Zachary Shifflett; great granddaughters, Lily and Layla; sisters, Karenlee Simmons, Janet Scott, and Beckie Wilkerson and husband, Jimmy; brother-in-law, Johnny Benson; a number of nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Chelsea; and special friends, Henry Johnny Johnson, Frank Moran, and Nate Wheeling.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Rd., Roanoke. The family would like to invite Steve’s friends to share their memories of him at the service.
