Mr. Raymond Eugene "Gene" Webb

Our devoted and beloved Husband, Dad, and Grandpa died after a short illness at Lewis Gale Hospital. Raymond Eugene Webb “Gene” is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Mary Fleshman Webb. Gene and Mary were blessed with 4 precious children; Raymond Alan Webb, David Gene Webb, Wesley Ray Webb and Mary Beth Wriston (her husband Roy Wriston). He was so proud of his precious grand-children Landon Joseph Webb, Lola Izabelle Webb, Taitym Rae Webb, Mayzie Leigh Webb, James Lee Wriston and Mary Ann Wriston. He also has wonderful friends and neighbors of 45 years. He is preceded in death by his only sibling Betty Ann Kingrey and his parents Raymond A. and Nannie Mae Weeks Webb.

He was born at home in Roanoke, Virginia on August 26, 1938. Gene loved life especially being a sinus cancer survivor since 2012. He said “Honey don’t’ worry the good Lord will take care of me,” and He has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Gene loved our neighborhood walks, listening to and recording mountain and gospel music, working puzzles (for me to glue), planting his little garden, our bus trips and plane rides to Hawaii and Alaska. He loved all sports especially UVA, Bostin Red Sox and NASCAR. In younger years he was an avid bowler on a league 3 times a week.

Gene was a hard worker all of his life and family always came first. His first job was picking peaches at Crumpacker Orchard at age 11. They would say “Eat all you want, don’t throw one peach or you’ll be fired.” On Saturdays he delivered newspapers with his cousin Jimmy Webb. Before being drafted to the Navy, he drove a delivery truck for Roanoke Times to Floyd, Dublin, and back. Gene was proud of his active 3 years in the Navy and 3 years Reserves. He retired from Yokohoma Tire Company on December 29, 1999. The family request those who wish to express their sympathy to consider making a donation to Colonial Avenue Baptist Church or Shriners Hospital.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held 1 pm, Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke with Reverend Melissa Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 pm prior to the service.
