Ms. Madeline Frances Summers Helms

Madeline Frances Summers Helms, 91, of Roanoke died Tuesday, December 27, 2022. She was a daughter of the late Robert Summers and Virginia Keaton Summers. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Britton Helms; sons, Robert “Chuck” Helms, Nickie Rae Helms and Jack Lee Helms; brothers, Bobby and Wayne Summers.

Madeline was a longtime member of Rockingham Court United Methodist Church. She owned and operated Joe Helms and Sons, Helms Stone Yard and worked part-time at Lotz Funeral Home. She loved helping with Feeding America.

Surviving are her children, Michael Lane Helms and wife, Kay, Tammie Helms-Tran; daughter-in-law, Becky Helms; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke. A celebration of Madeline’s life will be held 11 am, Friday, December 30, 2022 at Lotz Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Colwell officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery-Vinton.
