Tribute

Leonard John Pick III, 25, passed away suddenly on September 9, 2023 in a tragic car accident while traveling near Roanoke, Virginia.

He is survived by his mother, Anne-Marie; father, Leonard; sister, Nicole; grandmother, Kay. He passed away weeks before marrying his fiancée, Calsy.

Len experienced and enjoyed so much in his short 25 years of life.
Len was born in Norfolk, Virginia, attended The Williams School and moved to Europe with his family in 2006.  He attended the American School of Paris, took in and savored French culture and began traveling the world with his family.  He graduated from the International School of Brussels in 2016 and returned to the U.S. for his university studies.  After one year at Purdue University, he pursued his goal of attending the U.S. Naval Academy, became a naval officer, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research in 2021.  He subsequently earned his Master of Science degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Johns Hopkins University in 2022.  He most recently completed nuclear engineering training and was serving on his first submarine assignment.
Len loved to travel, explore, and experience other cultures.  He enjoyed playing basketball and golf, cherished time with his family and friends and loved to cook.  He knew meals brought people together for fun and laughter.   He was always thoughtful and kind, loyal to friends, had an infectious smile and was quietly funny.   Len touched and changed the lives of everyone he met.  His life was full of love and he appreciated life’s joys.   Len will be profoundly and dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Chapel, Annapolis, Maryland, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at noon followed by interment at the USNA Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sugar Plum Bakery in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to support the employment, education, and training of disabled persons, or to your favorite charity in remembrance of Len.
