Lawrence Foley Sr.

Lawrence J. Foley Sr, 81 of Boones Mill, Virginia, passed away, Friday, May 31, 2019 surrounded by family.

Lawrence worked as a self-employed contract hauler for Rockydale Quarry for 62 years. Many called him “Gravel Man”. He would tell stories of how Boones Mill and surrounding areas had grown and changed over the years and he would point out locations that he had delivered gravel helping to make those changes. His customers would always praise his work and recommend him to others and he was respected and liked by his peers.

To his family, he was a man who asked for nothing and gave everything. Always thinking of others, never himself. He was quiet and kind, yet funny. His strength was apparent the last several years. He was admired by many for that strength, but to family and friends there is no one to compare. He will be missed more than words can say, yet his memory lives on as his family shares his stories with future generations.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian; sons, Lawrence Foley Jr. (Kathy) and Kenny Foley (Fawn); daughters, Mary King (David), Grace Spradlin, and Donna Foley. He was predeceased by his son Roy Foley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andy, Tanner, Tyler, Kyle, Damian, Jeremy, Kaylee, Royce, Kenny Jr.; his great grandchildren, Madison, Hailey, Caidon, and Grayson; and great great grandchild, Carson.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Roanoke on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm and 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Roanoke on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 11:30 am by Pastor Jeff Gardner. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill.
