Mr John Allen Hicks

John Allen Hicks, 60, of Goodview, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
John was employed with Roanoke City for 25 years working in the Urban Forestry Department. He also liked, fishing, Kayaking, and Nascar, He was also an avid Drag Racer and loved going to the Bristol dragstrip for the big NHRA race.

John was known for his heart of gold and that he would give you the shirt off his back. He was also always a jokester. John is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Pauline Sweeney.
Surviving is his wife, Gloria Fuller Hicks; sisters, Linda Koll (Scott) and Sue Hicks; brother, Gary Sweeney; uncles, William Sweeney (Linda) and George Sweeney; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins left to cherish his memory.
The family would like to give special Thanks to John’s co-workers at the City of Roanoke and all his good friends that have shown compassion in their time of need.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Friday, March 24, 2023 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke. A celebration of John’s life will be held 11 am, Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Lotz Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Stover officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeney Family Cemetery Floyd, VA
