Garnett Sloan Jones, 97, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.
Garnett volunteered at Meals on wheels, Chips and at the Roanoke Airport. She was also a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Red Hill Church of the Brethren for 25 years. The things she will be remembered for the most is for what a phenomenal mother and grandma she was, how giving she was and the fact that she never met a stranger and loved everyone she met.
Garnett is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Jones; parents, Talton and Pearl Sloan; sister, Gillie Parcell; brother, Freeman Sloan; son in-law; Dr. Willis P. Lanier.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jannie Lanier, Tery Sandy (Ken); son, Garry Jones (Robin); grandchildren, Karen Painter (Timmy), Stephen Lancaster (Amy), Kelly Rader (Tom), Tyler Jones (Kaitlin) Caleb Jones (Sydney), Grant Jones; great grandchildren, Emily McMillan, Annabelle Rader, Olivia Rader, Phoebe Jones, Kinley Jones, Hutson Jones, Celia Jones; sister, Doris Martin; very special friends, Billie and Susie Altice, Curtis and Cindy Compton; two very special nieces, Cynthia Jackson and Harriet Costanes.
The family would like to Thank Edie Poole, Jenny Garrett and Mary Janosky for their loving care of Garnett.
Thank you to all the Kindred Hospice team especially Candi, Karen, Tonya and Steve for taking such great care of Garnett.
A celebration service of Garnett’s life will be 2pm Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Red Hill Church of the Brethren 6050 Franklin Road Roanoke, VA 24014 with Pastor Carlton Hodges and Michael Wray officiating.
