Effie Vest Poff, 98, of Roanoke passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018. She is a daughter of the late Jessie Vest and Etta. Effie loved and served her Lord Jesus Christ, she was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene, serving in many areas in the church through the years including, Teaching Sunday School, and Nursery for many years. She was an extremely talented seamstress she retired from Sidney’s Alterations Department. Her family and friends were her life and dear to her heart. Effie was a woman of many talents. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Hosea “Hoad” Poff; brothers and sisters, Eslie Vest, Alton Vest, Mamie Link, Velvie Walters, Roxie Walters and Annie Walters and Miradie Vest.
“Jesus loves me this I know, though my hair is white as snow. Though my sight is growing dim, still He bids me trust in Him. Though my steps are sometimes slow, with my hand in His…” In a holy moment on December 22, 2018 he took her hand. She finished her phenomenal race buoyed by the love and presence of her family as they celebrated her remarkable finish. Effie went home to meet her heavenly Father. She loved her God, her Family and her Church.
Those surviving to cherish her memory daughters, Fay Murray (John) and Trenda Breeding (Ken); special niece, Deborah Scherer (John); grandchildren, Brian Murray (Anna), David Murray (Christie), Courtney Bower (Aric), Aaron Breeding and Jim Thurman (Kim); great-grandchildren, Kristie, Josh and Kelly Murray, Angela Murray (Ricky); Tiffani Murray; 8 great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Hazel Huff; many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke. A celebration of Effie's life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 27, 2018 Lotz Funeral Home with Reverend George Stevenson and Pastor Shannon Harris officiating.
