Charles “Charlie” James Karpowich, 82, of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019. He was the husband of Carol Campbell Karpowich.
Mr. Karpowich was born August 7, 1936 in Roanoke, a son of the late Walter Karpowich and Beatrice Turner Goad. Charlie served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from First National Exchange Bank and Cox Cable. A lifetime resident of the Roanoke Valley, he was a member of the Elks Lodge and at one time served as the Exalted Ruler. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and also served on the finance committee there.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Karpowich was preceded in death by his sister, Sissie Stevens; and stepfather, Woody Goad.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by a stepson, Micah Hale, of Waynesboro; stepdaughters, Blair Senger and Carrie Underwood, of Waynesboro; 6 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson on the way; brother, Butch Karpowich and wife, Paquita, of Niceville, Florida; and beloved cat, Phoebee.
A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Rd., Roanoke, with Rev. Mickey Derrow officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.
