Mr. Bobby Lewis Russell

Bobby Lewis Russell known to many as “Poppy”, 79, of Moneta, Virginia and formerly of Roanoke, Virginia gained his eternal reward on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Born August 17, 1943 in Abingdon, Virginia, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rubye Russell of Bluff City, Tennessee; his siblings, George, Charles, Linda and Jackie.

Bobby was a graduate of Virginia High School, Bristol, Virginia. He was employed by Advance Auto at the age of 15 and rose to Senior Buyer after seventeen years of service. He retired from the Automotive Wholesale Parts Industry after 20 years in the business, retiring to his dream home with his precious wife Barbara at Smith Mountain Lake. Bobby was a follower of the University of Tennessee, an avid golfer, and longtime member of the Waterfront Country Club. Bobby’s greatest joys involved spending family time with Barbara and his kids and most especially his treasured grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Barbara Wells Russell; and his blended family, Daughter, Angela Epling (Larry) of Charlotte, NC; Son, Bobby D. Russell (Donna) of Roanoke, VA ; Daughter, Rebecca Levy (Alfred) of Dallas, Texas; Grandchildren, Samantha, Reves, Matthew, Natalie (Eric), and Annie (David); Great Grandchildren, Cameron and Austin. He is also survived by his siblings, Johnny, Larry, Jerry and James.

The Family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and doctors on the 7th floor CCU unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their exceptional, compassionate and loving care, special recognition to nurses Taylor, Emily, Alli and Kristin also a special thanks to Dr. Aaron Schelegle.

The family will receive friends and family 6-8pm Monday, November 21, 2022 at Lotz Funeral Home Roanoke.

A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Russell officiating burial immediately following the service at Fairview Cemetery.
