Maynard O. Manning, 89, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Lewis Gale Medical Center following a brief illness.
Maynard was born in Roanoke County November 26, 1927 and lived in the area all his life. He was the son of the late Oscar G. Manning and Hattie M. Bowles Lawrence.
Maynard was employed with General Electric for more than 30 years. He served in the United States Navy, was a Mason, a member of the Shrine, and enjoyed genealogy.
In addition to his parents, Maynard was preceded in death by his son Barry Lynn Manning; brother Vincent Manning and a sister, Janie Smith. He is survived by his long-time friend, Evelyn Hazelwood; son Timothy Manning of Roanoke; daughter Karen Nicholson of Blacksburg; grandson Adam Manning; sister and brother-in-law Ocelia and Hubert DeWeese of Bent Mountain; several nieces and nephews.
Maynard’s family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, April 19 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke. A graveside service with military honors celebrating his life will follow with Pastor Ben Peyton officiating at Evergreen Burial Park.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cave Spring Rescue Squad, 3206 Valley Forge Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.
