Daniel Myers Whitmore, 89 years young, went to live with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Born February 12, 1928, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Clarence and Ruth Brautigan Whitmore. Brothers, Tom and wife Claudine, Robert and wife Frances, Walter and wife Carrie Lee. Sisters, Elizabeth Pleasants and husband Lester, Martha, Annie Catherine and husband Bob, his deceased wife Irene Elder Whitmore, son in law, Kenny Myers and best dog Hunter.

Danny is survived by his children, Sherry Shannon, Danny and fiancé Margie, Katherine Whitmore Myers and boyfriend Keith, Tom and wife Liz, Joe Gibbs. His sister, Ruth Burnett and deceased husband, Joe, brother, Edgar and wife Betty.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Arianna, Eli, Sophia, Noah, Daniel. Also, many nieces and nephews and many very special friends and neighbors, one of which is his most faithful best friend, Mike Flowers.

Danny was proud to serve his country in the military, US NAVY U.S.S. ATA 210 SEAGOING ARMED TUG AUX. 1945-1948, with duty in the Atlantic Ocean. U.S. NAVY SEABEES MBC1 1950-1952. Mobile construction battalion #1 with duty in French Morocco and started the construction of Oceana Navy Air Station, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In addition, Danny had a long career from Western Electric from which he retired. Danny is and was a great person who never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on every life he touched. He enjoyed everything outdoors, including hunting when he was younger and then moved on to a life love of fishing and spending time at his dock with his large extended lake family which he truly cherished. Danny also possesses an unbreakable love for the Redskins and everyone who met him can attest that he is the all-time through good and bad seasons no matter what their biggest fan.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at RMH, Carilion Hospice, Home Instead for all the wonderful care in which he received.

The family would like to invite friends to wear their Redskins attire or colors thereof, and attend a visitation on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Lotz Funeral Home-Roanoke, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24016. Online condolences may be made at www.lotzfuneralhome.com
The family request in lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Danny was always quick to help others and we would like to be able to continue that in his honor.
